Coming to Wexford this September is a hospital that will offer a full range of medical services, specialty care, and advanced technologies. Allegheny Health Network’s Wexford Hospital will be located just off Perry Highway (U.S. Route 19), close to I-79, I-279, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, at 12311 Perry Highway, Wexford, Pennsylvania 15090.
The new location will boast a full-service emergency department and 100 private rooms, with the space to expand to 160 private rooms if needed. Wexford Hospital will offer state-of-the-art services including:
- Labor, delivery, and neonatal intensive care;
- Orthopaedics;
- Advanced imaging services;
- Laboratory testing;
- Cardiovascular surgery;
- Minimally-invasive, robotic-assisted surgery;
- A critical care unit; and
- Advanced cardiac care and testing, including cardiac catheterization.
In addition to the advanced services to be offered will be a design that is entirely focused on the patient experience. The location will boast free self-parking, complimentary valet parking, and large inpatient rooms with abundant sitting space. Patients will have complete control over their environment, as each private room allows individuals to control the internal temperature and lighting, as well as order from a full-service menu.
Additionally, there will be an onsite power plant constructed in partnership with Peoples Natural Gas. The presence of a natural gas-fired electric power generator which will make the hospital not only more efficient, but also will decrease the amount of greenhouse gasses and air pollutants emissions, providing for a cleaner environment.
The construction of this hospital marks the largest investment in the history of Allegheny Health Network. The Highmark Health company is composed of 10 hospitals and has only grown since it opened its doors in 1999. Presently AHN employs 21,000 workers, with more than 2,500 physicians, and provides Western Pennsylvania with nationally recognized programs for primary and emergency care, cardiovascular disease, cancer care, orthopedic surgery, neurology, women’s health, and diabetes. The company’s 10 hospitals also serve as clinical campuses for a variety of colleges, including Drexel University College of Medicine, Temple University School of Medicine, and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (“LECOM”).
Allegheny Health Network broke ground on their 11th hospital in October 2020, and construction has remained on schedule despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility will be 345,000-square-feet. It is expected that this new location will create more than 750 new jobs in the clinical, administrative, and support fields.
